Enes Kanter Takes a Stand

ENES KANTER CALLS OUT CHINA FOR THEIR GENOCIDE OF THE UYGURS

Enes Kanter has put the NBA in hot water with their notorious business partner: the Chinese government. The relationship between the NBA and China has been a point of criticism for many, considering the league's supposed commitment to social justice. Kanter became the first NBA player openly go after the Chinese government for their treatment of Uygur Muslins within China. Kanter sent out a tweet yesterday that read, "Heartless Dictator of China, XI JINPING and the Communist Party of China. I am calling you out in front of the whole world. Close down the SLAVE labor camps and free the UYGHUR people! Stop the GENOCIDE, now! #FreeUyghurs". Attached was a video in which he echoed the same sentiments.

This was a courageous move considering how we saw China and the NBA react to current 76ers general manager, Daryl Morey, when he tweeted out his support for the Hong Kong protestors a couple years ago. As a result, NBA games were blacked out in China and LeBron James criticized Morey for supposedly not being educated on the subject. Seriously, LeBron? What's there to be educated about? Do you, LeBron, support the people in Hong Kong fighting for their freedom? Or do you prioritize your wallet before them? I think we know the answer to that question. LeBron isn't speaking out in support of the Uygurs or the Hong Kong protestors because he has a lot of his finances tied up with China. And he knows that criticizing the evil Chinese government would put an end to those financial ties. LeBron James is a fraud. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." I know LeBron James has heard that quote before because he tweeted it out himself in 2018. Why so quiet about an actual genocide then, LeBron? He's too busy droning on about fake oppression in the United States instead of trying to do something about an actual genocide being committed by the same people who line his pockets with cash.

Since Kanter's comments, China has removed Celtics games from airing in China. The Celtics have also come out in support of their center and his stance against the Chinese government. It will be interesting to see what the NBA does next. Will they force Kanter to apologize? Will they end their financial ties with the Chinese government? Will other NBA players come out in agreement with Kanter and call out the genocide taking place at the hands of the Chinese government? I hope they do. I hope the NBA players who went on and on all last year about the fake oppression they suffer from in the United States take a stand against real oppression by a government that is responsible for a lot of the money the NBA brings in.

The Yankees Need to Change Their Philosophy

The Yankees are far too reliant on analytics  T. Ingals  @StickyClickSM Yankees GM Brian Cashman, photo by Rich Schultz/Getty Images. The Yankees made it to Game 7 of the 2017 ALCS as a 91-win Wild Card team. They were down 0-2 in the Division series and clawed their way back to win three straight and advance to the precipice of the World Series, a place they hadn't been in 8 years. They lost Games 6 and 7 in Houston, to a team that we now know was cheating, and as a result the Yankees fired long time manager, Joe Girardi.  Why did they fire Girardi? He was the manager of their last championship team. He had to manage his way around poor contracts, and retirement tour after retirement tour. 2017 was the first year in which Joe Girardi was given a new, young team, that wasn't hanging on the success of the late 90s and early 2000s. He wildly overperformed with them. That team, with that pitching, had no place being a game away from the World Series. But Joe Girardi wasn't t...

The Tom Brady Effect is Like the Tiger Effect

T. Ingals  @StickyClickSM We’ve spent a countless number of Sundays watching the best golfers in the world crumble at the sound of Tiger Woods’ footsteps. This past Sunday, we saw another GOAT create the same mayhem for his athletic adversaries.  The Los Angeles Rams should have blown the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out. In the first half, Tom Brady put on display one of the worst playoff performances of his career. The Buccaneers were noncompetitive in the first half and didn’t look like they even belonged on the same field as the Rams. And the beginning of the second half was more of the same. The Buccaneers looked anemic on offense.  But somehow, against all odds, after being down 27-3 in the third quarter, the Buccaneers willed themselves back into the game. The Rams, as if they were a golfer leading the Arnold Palmer Invitational with Tiger Woods breathing down their neck, began to unravel.  They fumbled three times in the second half, including a snap-miscommunication...

What I Think the Yankees Should do This Offseason

THE YANKEES HAVE HOLES THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED T. Ingals  @StickyClickSM Cashman during Yankees batting practice. Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images. The Yankees have a bevy of holes that need to be addressed this offseason. The lineup that the Yankees trotted out for the Wild Card game against Boston at Fenway Park wasn't even a professional lineup. The bottom seven guys in the lineup were automatic outs. It's clear that changes need to be made.  Shortstop The Yankees are going to be in the market for a young hot-shot shortstop. Fortunately, the market is going to be flooded with them this offseason. Javy Baez, Trevor Story, Carlos Correa, and Corey Seager will all be available. My personal preference is Seager or Correa. I want nothing to do with Baez or Story, both are strikeout machines and Baez is arguably the most undisciplined hitter in all of baseball. He's in the bottom percentile in league walk rate and in the top percentile in league strikeout rate. He's also a...
